Forensic Toxicology Experience Spanning More Than Three Decades
Marc A. LeBeau, PhD, is a Senior Forensic Scientist of the Scientific Analysis Section at the FBI Laboratory. He has worked as a Forensic Chemist and Toxicologist in that organization since 1994 and has testified in federal, state, and county courts throughout the United States. He was employed in the Saint Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office, before beginning his FBI career.
Dr. LeBeau is also the President of LeBeau Forensic Toxicology Consulting.
Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Toxicology
Dr. LeBeau holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and criminal justice from Central Missouri State University (1988), a Master of Science degree in forensic science from the University of New Haven (1990), and a doctorate in toxicology from the University of Maryland – Baltimore (2005).

Dr. LeBeau has been an active leader in numerous scientific organizations within the forensic sciences.
Current Leadership Roles
Dr. LeBeau serves as the immediate Past-President of The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT), the Chair of the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) Chemistry SAC for Seized Drugs and Toxicology, Chair of the AAFS Standards Board’s Toxicology Consensus Body, and Chair of the Industry Advisory Board of the Center for Advanced Research in Forensic Science.
Recognitions and Awards
Dr. LeBeau was awarded the FBI Director’s Award for Outstanding Scientific Advancement in both 2004 and 2020. In 2008, he was the recipient of the End Violence Against Women (EVAW) International Visionary Award. His accomplishments in the field were again recognized by the 2015 Alexander O. Gettler Award, as well as the 2023 Rolla Harger Award, both from the Toxicology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
Past Leadership Roles
Dr. LeBeau served as a co-chair of the Scientific Working Group for Forensic Toxicology (SWGTOX). He was also the first Chair for the Toxicology Subcommittee of the OSAC. Dr. LeBeau is a member and Past-President of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT). He was a Commissioner on the National Commission on Forensic Science. He also served as the chair of the Scientific Working Group on the Forensic Analysis of Chemical Terrorism (SWGFACT) and co-chair to the Scientific Working Group on the Forensic Analysis of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Terrorism (SWGCBRN)
Actively Advancing Forensic Science
Dr. LeBeau has been instrumental in establishing guidelines and standards of practice to improve all areas of forensic science, but particularly the fields of forensic toxicology and forensic chemistry. He is particularly recognized for his work to improve investigations into drug-facilitated sexual assault and assisting laboratories with training on topics such as method validation, measurement uncertainty, and root cause analyses.
