Experience in Forensic Toxicology Spanning Over Three Decades
Marc A. LeBeau, PhD, is a Senior Forensic Scientist in the Scientific Analysis Section at the FBI Laboratory. He has worked as a Forensic Chemist and Toxicologist in that organization since 1994 and has testified in federal, state, and county courts throughout the United States. He was employed in the Saint Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office, before beginning his FBI career.
Dr. LeBeau also holds the position of President at LeBeau Forensic Toxicology Consulting.
Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Toxicology
Dr. LeBeau holds a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and criminal justice from Central Missouri State University (1988), a Master’s degree in forensic science from the University of New Haven (1990), and a Doctorate in Toxicology from the University of Maryland—Baltimore (2005).

Current Leadership Roles
Dr. LeBeau holds the position of immediate Past-President at The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT), serves as the Chair of the Chemistry Scientific Area Committee (SAC) for Seized Drugs and Toxicology under the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC), is the Chair of the Toxicology Consensus Body of the AAFS Standards Board, and presides as the Chair of the Industry Advisory Board at the Center for Advanced Research in Forensic Science.
Recognitions and Awards
Dr. LeBeau received the FBI Director's Award for Outstanding Scientific Advancement in 2004 and 2020. He earned the End Violence Against Women (EVAW) International Visionary Award in 2008. His contributions to the field were further acknowledged with the Alexander O. Gettler Award in 2015 and the Rolla Harger Award in 2023, both bestowed by the Toxicology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
Past Leadership Roles
Dr. LeBeau has held the position of co-chair at the Scientific Working Group for Forensic Toxicology (SWGTOX) and was the inaugural Chair of the Toxicology Subcommittee for the OSAC. He is a member and former President of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT), served as a Commissioner for the National Commission on Forensic Science, and chaired the Scientific Working Group on Forensic Analysis of Chemical Terrorism (SWGFACT). Additionally, he co-chaired the Scientific Working Group on Forensic Analysis of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Terrorism (SWGCBRN).
Actively Advancing Forensic Science
Dr. LeBeau has played a pivotal role in developing guidelines and standards to enhance the practice of forensic science, especially in forensic toxicology and chemistry. He is notably acknowledged for his efforts to advance the investigation of drug-facilitated sexual assaults and for aiding laboratories in training on method validation, measurement uncertainty, and root cause analysis.
